Where do fleet vehicles charge?

Wednesday
The situation

The first van backs into its bay. Tonight, all 30 will charge at the depot.

The sales cars are elsewhere: one at a motorway fast charger, the others on their way home.

The questionWhere does a fleet charge, and who pays for each kilowatt-hour?

Four placesWhere a fleet charges
Paid byMeasured by
Depotovernight, own sitecompanyown charger
Workplaceoffice car parkcompanyown charger
Employee's homecompany carsemployee, reimbursedwallbox or car
Publicon the roadcompany, by cardpublic charger

The vans charge only at the depot; the sales cars use the other three.

Mostly where the vehicle stands

Electric car owners worldwide charge privately, at home or at a workplace, almost 75% of the time, and at public fast chargers only about 10% of the time. For fleets with a depot the share is often higher still, because the vehicles return to the same place every evening.

The office car park

The workplace is the fourth place. For new office buildings with more than five parking spaces, the recast asks Member States to ensure at least one recharging point for every two spaces. How the rules for buildings reach a company is shown in Regulations and compliance, stop 06.
