The situation

After four and a half hours at the wheel, the driver must take a break. The truck pulls into a charging site for heavy vehicles.

The break is 45 minutes. The battery is at 28%.

The questionHow do the rules for drivers decide when and how long a truck can charge?

One day of the batteryComposed example, 640 km

A composed day at 80 km/h, using the stated range of 500 km. During the 45-minute break, the truck takes about 320 kWh, an average of about 430 kW.

A reduced daily rest of at least 9 hours is possible.

The break becomes the charging stop

After four and a half hours of driving, a driver must take an uninterrupted break of at least 45 minutes, which may be split into 15 minutes followed by 30. Daily driving may not exceed nine hours, extended to ten at most twice a week, and a regular lasts at least eleven hours. For an electric truck, this means two natural charging windows: the break on the road, short and powerful, and the daily rest, long and slow.
