How does a backend change a charger remotely?
A driver calls the hotline: the card is not accepted. Support starts the session remotely while the driver waits.
Later, the operations team changes a setting on two hundred chargers at once.
The questionWhat can a backend do to a charger from a distance?
Support starts or stops a session on behalf of a driver, for example when a card is not accepted.

The device model
In 2.0.1, the describes every component of a charger and its variables in a standard way. An operator can configure and monitor chargers of different manufacturers with the same commands, and set custom monitoring, for example a warning when a temperature passes a threshold. The device model helps operators to reduce downtime and operating costs.
Updates that cannot be faked
A firmware update changes everything a charger does, so it has to be authentic. The security extensions of OCPP add secure firmware updates with signed firmware and a security event log. The charger installs only firmware whose signature it can verify. How the update reaches thousands of chargers without disturbing drivers is a matter of planning: in waves, at night, with a way back.

3 questions. Answer all of them to complete this stop. Each answer explains itself.
A driver's card is not accepted. What can support do immediately?
A remote start lets the driver charge while the cause of the refused card is investigated.
What does the device model of OCPP 2.0.1 provide?
Components and variables described the same way across manufacturers make mixed networks manageable.
Why is firmware signed?
A signature lets the charger verify the source of the firmware before it installs it.
